I woke up at 5:30 AM today. Not by accident. On purpose.
I had this fantasy that I’d stretch, journal, drink lemon water, and greet the sun like a well-adjusted adult.
Reality? I woke up to my alarm blaring like a war siren. It was pitch black. My dog looked personally offended. I stepped out of bed and immediately stubbed my toe on my own water bottle.
Still, I persevered.
I lit a scented candle because I read somewhere that it “sets the tone.”
The only tone it set was smoke. I forgot I’d kept it near the curtains.
Mini fire panic ensued. Candle now lives in exile.
Next, I tried to meditate.
But my brain was like,
“What if penguins had jobs?”
“Did you ever return that Amazon package?”
“Why did you say ‘you too’ to the waiter when he said ‘enjoy your meal’ in 2019?”
Needless to say, the only thing I manifested was an existential spiral.
At 6:15, I gave up and made coffee. By 6:45, I was asleep on the couch with one shoe on.
The moral of the story?
Some of us were born for late nights, messy afternoons, and 11:30 AM breakfasts.
And that’s okay. The morning can keep its peace and productivity. I’ll find mine around noon.
